In 2002, after death of Dhirubhai Ambani, there was a feud between the Ambani brothers, following which, the Reliance Group split in 2005.
Anil Ambani’s business group got Electricity, Telecom, and Financial Services business whereas Mukesh Ambani got Oil and Gas, Refining, Petrochemicals, and Manufacturing business of the Reliance Group.
After formal partition in January 2006, both parties executed Non-compete agreements and in May 2010, the non-compete agreements were scraped between Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and Reliance-Anil Dhirubhai Ambani (R-Adag) group firms.
Subsequently, Reliance Jio’s launch was announced with initial offers to customers including three months of free services followed by free calls and data plans.
